EuCIA participated in a CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency) cluster workshop for wind energy projects on 19 February. The event in Brussels gathered together representatives from 29 Horizon Europe wind energy projects.
EuCIA’s president Professor Roberto Frassine represented the REFRESH and EOLIAN projects, where EuCIA is the communication and dissemination partner. EOLIAN project coordinator Marco Monti of Proplast was also present.

This was a valuable opportunity to connect with other projects working to advance the performance and sustainability of wind energy and discuss innovation and policy priorities with policymakers.
Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe is the EU’s ambitious research and innovation programme for 2021-2027, with a budget of €95.5 billion. It tackles climate change, helps to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and boosts the EU’s competitiveness and growth. CINEA runs parts of the programme.
Horizon Europe wind energy projects support the transition to a reliable, sustainable and competitive energy system. 63 projects have been supported since 2014, with a combined total funding of approximately €450 million.
Advancing composites circularity
The REFRESH and EOLIAN projects align with EuCIA’s mission to advance the sustainability and circularity of composite materials.
REFRESH – Smart dismantling, sorting and recycling of glass fibre reinforced composite from wind power sector through holistic approach – commenced in January 2023.
EOLIAN – Bio-based, repairable and recyclable vitrimer composites and sensors for highly reliable, sustainable wind blades – started in June 2024.
EuCIA is also a partner in the EU-funded projects MaxBlade, focused on scaling up tidal energy in Europe, and PLEIADES, which is developing innovative technologies for sustainable composite aerostructures.
