The European Circular Composites Alliance (ECCA) is introducing monthly Lunch & Learn sessions for its members to share practical insights on circularity initiatives and solutions.
Initiated by one of the ECCA working groups, the Lunch & Learn programme aims to enhance the exchange of knowledge and experience of composites circularity across all ECCA members and groups. The short online meetings (12.30-13.30 CET) feature a 30-minute presentation from a guest speaker followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.
The presentations and recordings from each session will also be available to all ECCA members.
RWE: circularity challenges in offshore wind energy
At its first Lunch & Learn in April, ECCA was delighted to welcome multinational energy group RWE.
Mrs. Chih-Ching Lan, Senior Sustainability Manager – Carbon & Circularity at RWE Offshore Wind GmbH, presented the company’s activities in the offshore wind sector and the evolution of its offshore wind farms.
She went on to discuss RWE’s view of the challenges linked to the recycling of wind turbine blades at the end of their service life. She also explained the company’s efforts to improve circularity of blades and composite materials by addressing every stage of the ‘R-ladder’, from redesign, repair, reuse, and repurposing, to recycling, and recovery.
RWE will continue to address challenges in blade circularity through strategic collaborations and innovative solutions, she concluded, and multi-stakeholder collaboration is critical across the entire value chain for achieving sustainable outcomes.
An active Q&A session reflected strong interest in circularity developments in wind energy.
Next sessions
For the next Lunch & Learn events we are looking forward to welcoming representatives from CompPair, Gurit, and CRC.
- Friday May 22nd,12.30-13.30 (CET): CompPair – self-healing composite solutions.
- Friday June 5th, 12.30-13.30 (CET): Gurit – initiatives related to recyclability.
- Friday July 24th, 12.30-13.30 (CET): CRC (Circular Recycling Company) – composites recycling and secondary raw materials.
Join the ECCA
The Lunch & Learn sessions are one of the many benefits of joining the alliance.
As an ECCA member, you become part of a dynamic community dedicated to sustainability and growth within the composites sector and will collaborate with stakeholders throughout the value chain to support the industry’s transition to a circular economy.
Membership of the ECCA brings the opportunity to:
- Contribute to the roadmaps of one or more of the five Working Groups – Aerospace & Defence, Road Vehicles & Public Transportation, Industrial & Recreational, Construction, and Crossover;
- Extend your professional network;
- Share your expertise and experience;
- Enhance your knowledge of composites circularity;
- Connect with EU policymakers.
All ECCA members are also invited to the annual General Assembly in Brussels. This year’s event takes place on 3rd December.
The ECCA is a sectorial alliance of EuCIA and membership is free of charge. Find out more about the ECCA’s objectives and how to apply for membership.
