News, ECCA|

At the European Circular Composites Alliance (ECCA)’s Mid-Year Review on 25 June, the five working groups shared their progress, demonstrating that collaboration across the entire composites value chain can turn ambition into action.

Industrial & Recreation is developing the foundations for material passports and traceability to enable true closed loop recycling.

Construction has aligned the sector on priorities, mapped available technologies and is now building a roadmap towards industrial-scale implementation.

Road Vehicles & Public Transportation is working with dismantlers and recyclers to unlock composites recovery from end-of-life vehicles and support the implementation of the new ELV Regulation.

Aerospace & Defence is identifying practical pathways to recover high-value composite materials while connecting with existing European initiatives and best practices.

Crossover continues to bring all sectors together around common challenges such as waste classification, standards, traceability, data sharing and future EU policy.

ECCA EVOLUTION OF COMPOSITE CIRC CHALLENGES - EuCIA

As the working group chairs highlighted:

“Circularity is not one technology or one company. It is an ecosystem moving together.”

“The challenge is no longer to prove that recycling is possible, but to make it scalable.”

“Traceability and material passports will become key enablers for a true circular economy.”

“Collaboration across industries is essential to build viable value chains.”

“Now is the time to move from strategy to implementation.”

Building momentum

ECCA, a sectorial alliance of #EuCIA, was launched in 2025 in partnership with JEC. It now brings together more than 225 organisations committed to accelerating circularity for composites, with more than 20 working group meetings held this year so far.

The momentum is also growing beyond the alliance. During the Mid-Year Review, guest speaker Professor Stefano Turri from Politecnico di Milano highlighted new European funding opportunities supporting circular composite projects, while Luigi Amati of META Group confirmed business angels’ growing interest in investing in circular composite technologies and innovative business models.

This is a strong signal that innovation, policy and investment are beginning to converge.

ECCA’s 2nd General Assembly

The journey has only just begun. Join us at the ECCA General Assembly in Brussels on             3 December to help build a truly European circular composites ecosystem.
