On 27-28 June, EuCIA attended the first General Assembly of the REFRESH project together with partners RINA Consulting, ACCIONA Construccion, CETMA, CIRCE, GEES Recycling, TECNALIA, Enecolab, MTB Manufacturing, Gjenkraft AS, and STD France.

REFRESH (Smart dismantling, sorting and REcycling of glass Fibre Reinforced composite from wind power Sector through Holistic approach) is an EU-funded project which is aiming to develop and demonstrate a circular, smart system to enable improved recycling of glass fibre reinforced composites derived from wind turbine blades. The project commenced in January 2023 and will last 48 months.

The meeting was hosted by MTB at its recycling plant near Lyon, France. A busy programme included progress updates on the project’s eight work packages, an overview of future work, as well as a tour of MTB’s cable recycling plant. As leader of the REFRESH Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation work package, EuCIA looks forward to sharing the project’s activities and results over the coming months.

The REFRESH project perfectly aligns with EuCIA’s ongoing initiatives to promote the sustainability of composite materials and improve their circularity. Building a new circular economy strategy for composite blades will have a significant impact in the wind energy sector.

REFRESH has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 101096858.
