EuCIA presented the European Circular Composites Alliance (ECCA) at a workshop in Lativa organised by Riga Technical University (RTU) and the CompositeCircle project.

The event Waste Management of composite materials – from dismantling to recycling took place on 22nd January at RTU. The objective was to provide participants with practical knowledge and strategies for managing composites waste from end-of-life wind turbines, ensuring compliance with legal requirements. The aim is to promote collaboration between wind energy operators, waste management companies, and technology providers to enhance safe, efficient, and sustainable processing of composite materials.

EuCIA’s president, Professor Roberto Frassine, discussed our perspective of composites circularity and the current challenges, and introduced the ECCA, its vision, and objectives. He also participated in a panel discussion moderated by our colleague Pirjo Pietikäinen from EuCIA member Finnish Plastics Industries Federation (FIPIF).

The CompositeCircle project brings together experts from six countries (Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Denmark and Sweden) to create a shared circular economy model for composite materials. It runs for three years (2025–2028).

Thank you to the organisers for inviting us to this engaging workshop and to all the participants for the fruitful discussions.
