An average of 1200 people each month are now using EuCIA’s Eco Impact Calculator to support their sustainable design decisions.
This free, easy-to-use online tool allows users in the composites industry to calculate a cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment (LCA) of a composite product. It enables fast assessment of a product’s environmental impact from raw materials through to the finished part.
Traditional LCA tools can be costly and complex. EuCIA specifically designed the Eco Impact Calculator for ease of use, especially for small and medium-sized organisations without in-house LCA specialists. It produces three sets of impact results: embedded energy measured as cumulative energy demand (CED), greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), and a range of environmental impact categories based on ILCD methodology, including climate change, resource use and acidification.
The results can be obtained as a pdf ‘Eco Report’ for sharing. The data can also be downloaded for import into the SimaPro LCA software to allow for full life cycle calculations.
The calculator is regularly updated to incorporate new materials, processes and life cycle datasets.
By making reliable environmental assessments more accessible, the tool helps composite part manufacturers adopt more sustainable practices from the earliest stages of design.
