Lightweight construction is a key technology for Germany and indispensable for achieving the strategic goals of the EU. These are set in the Green Deal, the Green Deal Industrial Plan and the Critical Raw Materials Act. Last year, the Advisory Board of the BMWK’s Lightweight Construction Initiative expressed the wish for a European event in Brussels to raise the political profile of lightweight construction at EU level.
We are now pleased to send you the invitation for the first lightweight event in Brussels, which will take place on May 4th, 2023 from 10:00 to 16:00 in cooperation with the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU.
The venue is:
Representation of the Free State of Bavaria
to the European Union
Rue Wiertz 77
B-1000 Brussels
The motto of the event, which will consist of short presentations, two panel discussions and an accompanying exhibition, is:
No European Green Deal without Lightweight Technology.
The agenda incudes a keynote address by Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary from the BMWK, via video, and the presentation of the German lightweight construction strategy by Ministerial Councilor Werner Loscheider, also from the BMWK. We will then highlight the potential of lightweight construction for Europe and discuss its importance and contribution to the strategic goals of the EU in a first panel discussion. Before the lunch break, lighthouse projects will be presented.
The afternoon will begin with presentations of lightweight construction strategies and activities from other European countries (e.g. Austria, Poland, Belgium, Sweden, etc.), and then in the second panel discussion the status of lightweight construction in Europe and the requirements for its development as a European key technology will be formulated as requests to policy makers. First European example projects and a circular economy approach for lightweight construction will round off the program.
There will be enough time for networking and individual meetings afterwards.
Please make a note of this exciting date in advance. The exact agenda will be communicated shortly.
Further information and the possibility to register can be found here.
We are looking forward to your participation.
