The European Composite Bridge Database is a comprehensive collection of both qualitative and quantitative data about existing composite bridges across Europe. Coordinated by EuCIA member NCMT, this initiative aims to bridge the knowledge gap in the construction sector regarding composite materials in bridge construction.
Purpose
The database serves multiple key objectives:
- Provide evidence-based data to convince regulators, engineers and construction companies about the safety and reliability of composite bridges.
- Help decision-makers in both regulatory bodies and procurement to make informed choices about composite bridges.
- Enable more efficient approval processes for new composite bridge projects.
What information is included
The database contains detailed information about each bridge, including:
- Bridge specifications and technical data.
- Composite materials used and manufacturing methods.
- Engineering data crucial for approval processes.
- Qualitative information about the design, approval and construction processes.
How the information will be used
The collected data will be analyzed, organized and made available to:
- The composite industry for developing improved design methodologies.
- Regulatory bodies for updating standards and approval procedures.
- Construction companies for project planning and risk assessment.
- Bridge owners for planning tenders and procurements
All data usage will comply with relevant privacy and data protection regulations.
How to contribute
The success of this database relies on industry participation. You can contribute by:
- Submitting data about your composite bridge projects through our online form.
- Connecting us with other bridge constructors and engineers.
- Sharing the database initiative within your professional network.
Together, we can strengthen the position of composites in bridge construction by sharing knowledge and experience across Europe. The database will be regularly updated as new information is received from contributors.
