We’re delighted to announce the publication of Design of Fibre-Polymer Composite Structures ꟷ Commentary to European Technical Specification CEN/TS 19101:2022 by CRC Press.

Edited by João R. Correia, Thomas Keller, Jan Knippers, J. Toby Mottram, Carlo Paulotto, José Sena-Cruz and Luigi Ascione, this book offers supplementary information to European Technical Specification CEN/TS 19101:2022, Design of Fibre-Polymer Composite Structures.

CEN/TS 19101:2022 is a milestone for the use of polymer composites in civil engineering works. It provides clear guidance on how to design structures based on composite materials in accordance with the Eurocodes to which all civil engineering structures in general design in Europe must comply. Having a dedicated Technical Specification establishes composites as a credible construction material alongside steel, concrete, and aluminium.

Ideal for professional engineers

This new book comprises around 400 background reports providing supplementary information to the Technical Specification, explaining the rationale behind the choices made, justifying the options that were followed, and identifying the references that were considered.

The book also identifies research needs in this field to increase knowledge of the behaviour of composite structures and for possible future development of the Technical Specification towards a Eurocode standard.

The only guide to practical composites structural design in accordance with the principles and terminology of the structural Eurocodes, this book is ideal for professional engineers working in structural design, as well as a source of consensus information for graduate students and researchers in the area.

Open access publication

EuCIA has participated in the development of CEN/TS 19101, published in November 2022, and is working to build awareness of this important milestone, which paves the way for greater use of composites in the construction market.

EuCIA board member Eric Moussiaux has been closely involved in this work. At the EuCIA Board Meeting on 4 July he reported on current progress towards converting TS 19101 into ‘Eurocode 11’ – a new Eurocode specifically for composites.

We thank JEC and EPTA for their collaboration in supporting the open access publication of this book to ensure this information is freely available to all.
