EuCIA is giving a keynote presentation at RECOMP 2024. This conference, organised by EuCIA member Composites UK, will explore the latest developments in reuse and recycling of composite materials.

The event takes place on 27-28 November at the University of Warwick.

Composites circularity

All industries urgently need to increase their circularity, reducing their use of virgin resources and increasing their use of recycled resources. The composites industry is no exception. There has been a big increase in efforts to develop and commercialise processes which can enable greater reuse and recycling of composite materials, both production waste and end-of-life material. There is a real focus on developing new market applications for products with recycled composites content.

These objectives are at the core of EuCIA’s sustainability initiatives. On the opening morning of RECOMP 2024, Jaap van der Woude, Chairman of EuCIA’s Sustainability Working Group, will deliver the keynote presentation Taking Composites Circularity to the Next Level – Challenges and Opportunities. This will present EuCIA’s view of composites circularity, the different recycling options, and the actions required to build a new, circular, value chain.

Recycling technologies and use of recyclates

EuCIA’s presentation will kick off two days of presentations around the following themes:

  • Reducing composites waste;
  • Emerging materials & processes for composites circularity;
  • Ese of recyclates – recycled carbon fibre;
  • Use of recyclates – recycled glass fibre and recycled resins;
  • Commercialising recycling technologies – recycling glass fibre;
  • Commercialising recycling technologies – recycling carbon fibre;
  • The waste manager’s perspective – making the system work.

Speakers will represent organisations including B&M Longworth, Airborne UK, Composite Braiding, Suez Recovery & Recycling UK, Arkema, Gen2Carbon, Lineat Composites, V-Carbon, National Composites Centre, PRF Composite Materials, STRUCTeam Ltd, Gen2Plank, and Scott Bader.
