EuCIA has published an article explaining how cement reprocessing offers a sustainable solution for end-of-life composites.

When lifetime extension strategies for composite parts (such as repair, reuse, and repurposing) are no longer possible, the final option is recycling. One of the most effective methods for recycling glass fibre reinforced thermoset composites is reprocessing into cement.

This waste management route supports a circular economy by addressing both waste disposal and resource conservation. Replacing traditional fuels with composites waste decreases the carbon footprint of cement production. Additionally, glass fibres, a major component of the composite, serve as a valuable alternative to conventional raw materials in cement clinker production.

The life cycle assessment (LCA) study discussed in this article demonstrates the environmental benefits of cement reprocessing of composites in comparison to incineration.
