Many of the biggest barriers to composites circularity are not confined to a single industry. They span multiple sectors, requiring a coordinated approach if the composites industry is to speak with one voice.

This is the role of the European Circular Composites Alliance (ECCA)’s Crossover Working Group. The group’s progress during the first half of 2026, and next actions, were presented during the ECCA Mid-Year Review meeting in June.

Identifying common challenges

Unlike the other Working Groups, the Crossover group is not organised around a particular market or application. Instead, it identifies common challenges across the alliance and facilitates coordinated action. Its purpose is to identify priorities that affect multiple sectors, align perspectives across Working Groups and help develop shared positions that strengthen ECCA’s contribution to Europe’s circular economy.

The group’s role has evolved significantly during the first half of 2026. Its priorities emerge from the needs of the other Working Groups as they identify common barriers, opportunities and policy challenges.

The Crossover group is beginning to come into its own. Representatives from across the alliance can now be brought together to develop common positions on issues identified as requiring cross-sector collaboration and a harmonised industry voice.

Several priority themes have already been identified. These include Digital Product Passports, waste transportation and waste codes, and the forthcoming Circular Economy Act. Each of these topics affects multiple sectors and will benefit from coordinated discussion, shared expertise and consistent messaging across the composites value chain.

The Working Group has also begun identifying, prioritising and coordinating alliance-wide initiatives. Beyond regulatory developments, this includes developing common best practices, supporting alliance communications and helping ensure that knowledge generated within one Working Group can benefit the wider ECCA community.

Looking ahead, the focus will be on delivering outcomes.

A united voice

As ECCA continues to grow, the Crossover Working Group will play an increasingly important role in ensuring that the alliance does more than share knowledge. By connecting expertise across sectors and coordinating action on common challenges, it provides the mechanism through which ECCA can develop a unified voice capable of accelerating circularity across the European composites industry.

Join the Working Group

The Crossover group is guided by Philip Easthill of European Boating Industry (EBI) and Helen Boston of ALTA Performance Materials.

Membership is free and open to stakeholders across the value chain. Join the Crossover Working Group and help shape ECCA’s united voice.

The European Circular Composites Alliance (ECCA), a sectorial alliance of EuCIA, was launched in March 2025 in partnership with JEC to establish a circular economy for composites in Europe.
