When we hear about materials like carbon fibre composites, it’s normally in high-tech, futuristic applications like lightweight drones or Formula One cars. However, you may not have considered how life might be without the composite materials we use every day.

Composites are used in countless technologies, from computers and vacuum cleaners, to wind turbines and aircraft. Their mechanical properties are unique and irreplaceable. No other material has the combination of lightweight, high tensile strength, stiffness and corrosion resistance that composites offer.

Without composites, transportation would be heavier, slower, and less efficient; renewable energy would be less feasible, and printed circuit boards wouldn’t exist.

Learn about the essential role of composites in our daily lives in the new publication What would the world look like without composites? available on the EuCIA Knowledge Hub.
